My post contentThe Miami Grand Prix marks the return of the Formula 1 season this weekend after a five-week break, with fresh regulation tweaks expected to shape the race.
Heading into the fourth race of the campaign, 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli leads the drivers’ standings ahead of his Mercedes teammate George Russell.
The Miami race will be the first since adjustments were made to the sport’s new power-unit regulations, introduced earlier in the season but criticised for affecting driving feel and safety.
The changes are designed to improve car handling during qualifying and reduce risks associated with large speed differences when cars deploy energy unevenly. They also aim to cut down on technical issues such as “lift and coast” and “super-clipping,” which have impacted performance in earlier races.
Laurent Mekies described the tweaks as “a good step forward,” reflecting a broader consensus within the paddock that the sport is moving in the right direction.
Drivers are expected to notice a more natural driving experience, with Oscar Piastri saying the changes should make power delivery “more in our control and also more sensible.”
However, insiders suggest the adjustments only go part of the way, with some calling for deeper technical changes—particularly to engine fuel-flow rates—to fully address concerns.
While fans may notice slight improvements, such as reduced speed drop-offs on straights, the overall racing style is expected to remain largely unchanged, with overtaking battles still a key feature.
As the season resumes, attention will be on whether the tweaks can enhance competition without compromising the fast-paced racing that has defined recent Formula 1 action.
