The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has challenged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to provide evidence of any formal application to use Eagle Square, dismissing allegations that the party was denied access to the venue for its national convention.

Wike made the remarks on Monday while speaking to journalists during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja.

He said neither his office nor any relevant authority had received an official request from the party, insisting that Eagle Square remains open to organisations that follow due process.

ADC Allegation

The ADC had earlier accused authorities of blocking its planned national convention scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, claiming that its requests to use both Eagle Square and the Velodrome at the National Stadium were ignored.

The party, through its National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, described the situation as an attempt to frustrate its preparations, adding that it was left with no option but to move the event to another venue.

However, Wike dismissed the allegation, saying it was unfounded and aimed at generating public sympathy.

“No Formal Application Received” – Wike

According to the minister, no official request was submitted for the use of Eagle Square, adding that access to the venue is granted to all groups that comply with established procedures.

“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development,” he said.

“If it is the African Democratic Congress, such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy.”

Wike also noted that political parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress had previously used the venue after following due process and paying the required fees.

Venue Access and Government Revenue

He stressed that government-owned facilities are available to all organisations provided they meet the necessary requirements, adding that such events also generate revenue for the government.

“We do not deny any group access to the venue as long as they follow the established procedures,” he said.

Clarification on Kugbo Bus Terminal

Wike also addressed reports alleging the collapse of the Kugbo Bus Terminal, describing them as inaccurate.

He explained that what occurred was damage to roofing sheets caused by a severe windstorm, not a structural failure.

According to him, the main structure remains intact and repair works are already ongoing.

“The terminal did not collapse. The structure is intact,” he said.

Infrastructure Update

The minister further expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja, noting that several road and streetlight projects are nearing completion.

He disclosed that road construction is expected to be completed by May 15, while streetlight installation is projected for completion by May 31.
