Controversial preacher and televangelist Abel Damina has stirred fresh debate after challenging a widely held belief about giving in Christian teachings.
Speaking during a sermon, Damina described the popular notion that “givers never lack” as misleading, arguing that there is no biblical backing for claims that giving guarantees financial prosperity.
Questions Prosperity Teachings
Damina insisted that individuals who promote the idea are being dishonest, stating that giving does not automatically lead to wealth.
“There is no scripture that says when you give, you will never lack. Anybody who claims that givers never lack is a fraud,” he said.
He further argued that giving naturally reduces one’s resources, noting that individuals must work to replenish what they give, and in some cases may not recover it.
Criticism of Tithing Beliefs
The cleric also addressed teachings around tithing, stressing that wealth creation is primarily driven by personal effort, jobs, and business activities rather than religious giving.
According to him, people who attained great wealth while tithing did so because of their economic activities, not because of the act of giving itself.
Mixed Reactions Expected
Damina’s comments are likely to generate mixed reactions within religious circles, especially among proponents of prosperity teachings, where giving and tithing are often linked to financial blessings.
The debate highlights ongoing discussions about faith, doctrine, and financial expectations within modern Christian practice.
