Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has reaffirmed his intention to return to the National Assembly in 2027, declaring his readiness to contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat.

Omo-Agege, who was also the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Delta State during the 2023 elections, made this known while addressing party supporters at a political gathering in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Grassroots Mobilisation Begins

Speaking at the event held at the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, the former lawmaker urged his supporters to begin preparations for the party’s primaries, emphasising the importance of grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Primaries are around the corner. Go back to your wards, organise yourselves, and decide who will represent you in the Senate in 2027,” he said.

Support for Tinubu

Omo-Agege also reiterated his support for the re-election of Bola Tinubu, calling on his supporters to remain committed to the administration.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, urging Nigerians—particularly those in Delta Central—to stay steadfast in their backing of the government.

Highlighting Legislative Achievements

The former Deputy Senate President used the occasion to highlight what he described as key achievements during his tenure in the 8th and 9th National Assemblies.

He credited himself with facilitating the establishment of major institutions, including the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, and the Nigerian Defence Space School, both located in Orogun.

“We stand here today in one of the projects brought to the Urhobo nation—the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun. It is not just a legacy project; it was established and built,” he stated.

He also pointed to the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale as part of his contributions to expanding access to higher education in the region.

Economic Development Projects

Omo-Agege further highlighted the ongoing Oil and Gas Industrial Park situated between Eku and Abraka, describing it as a transformative project with significant economic potential.

According to him, the project is expected to create employment opportunities for youths and improve electricity supply to surrounding communities upon completion.

“That project is bigger than the three tertiary institutions combined in terms of investment and impact,” he said.

Looking Ahead to 2027

The declaration signals an early start to political positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Omo-Agege seeking to consolidate support within his constituency.

Political observers note that his renewed engagement at the grassroots level reflects a broader strategy to strengthen his influence within the APC and secure the party’s senatorial ticket.
