NFF Moves to Secure Newcastle Striker William Osula for Super Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly made contact with William Osula over a potential invitation to represent the Super Eagles, as the forward continues to weigh his international future.

Osula, who currently plays for Newcastle United, was born in Aarhus, Denmark, to a Nigerian father and Danish mother, making him eligible to represent both countries at senior level.

The 22-year-old striker was recently called up to the Denmark national football team but is yet to make his senior debut, a situation Nigeria is hoping to capitalise on.

Nigeria Makes Its Move

According to Danish journalist Farzam Abolhosseini, the NFF has initiated contact with Osula through individuals within his camp.

Writing via Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Abolhosseini revealed that the striker is now at a crucial decision point regarding his international allegiance.

“William Osula... is in the situation where he has to choose between Denmark or Nigeria,” he noted.

“Tipsbladet can reveal that the Premier League striker... has been contacted through his backroom staff by the Nigerian Football Association, who want to bring him into the fold.”

Rising Profile and Strong Form

Osula has been in impressive form in recent weeks in the Premier League, further strengthening Nigeria’s interest in securing his commitment.

The striker has scored three goals in his last four league matches, including a decisive winner against Manchester United and another goal against AFC Bournemouth.

At youth level, Osula has already represented Denmark, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances for their U-21 side, but his senior international future remains undecided.

Competition from Denmark

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer has publicly praised Osula’s qualities, highlighting his pace and pressing ability.

“He has exceptional top-level skills with his speed, and his pressing game is incredibly strong. He can come in and change games,” Riemer said during a recent interview.

Despite such endorsements, the absence of a senior cap leaves the door open for Nigeria to make a late move.

Timing and Tournament Implications

The NFF’s interest comes as Nigeria prepares for upcoming fixtures, including the Unity Cup and international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

Head coach Eric Chelle had earlier indicated plans to scout both domestic talents and foreign-born players eligible to represent Nigeria.

However, with the Unity Cup falling outside the official FIFA international window, Osula may not be immediately available even if he commits to Nigeria.
