Lagos APC Leaders Back Hamzat’s Governorship Bid Ahead of 2027

The governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, received a significant boost on Thursday as key leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) openly declared their support for his bid.

Among those backing Hamzat are the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, and former senator Ganiyu Olarenwaju Solomon, alongside other party stakeholders.

Consultations with Party Leaders

Hamzat held a series of consultation meetings with party leaders, beginning with a visit to the APC state secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, where he met with Ojelabi and members of the State Working Committee.

He also paid separate visits to Obasa and Solomon at their residences, as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate support within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Hamzat Outlines Vision for Lagos

Addressing party leaders, Hamzat highlighted the strategic importance of Lagos to Nigeria’s overall stability and economic growth.

“The truth of the matter is that if Lagos fails, Nigeria will have problems and we must not fail,” he said.

He also stressed the need for the party to secure victory in future elections, referencing lessons from the 2023 polls.

“We must ensure that what happened in 2023 does not repeat itself in 2027. We must secure a resounding victory for our leader, Bola Tinubu, and ensure the APC remains dominant in Lagos,” he added.

Hamzat further accused opposition parties of attempting to undermine the achievements of the current administration, alleging efforts to discredit government policies.

Party Leaders Declare Support

In his response, Ojelabi reaffirmed the party’s confidence in Hamzat, praising his competence and leadership qualities.

“We support you, we trust you, and we are very confident of your competency and humility,” the APC chairman said.

At a separate meeting, Obasa expressed strong optimism about Hamzat’s chances, suggesting that his candidacy had already gained widespread acceptance among key stakeholders.

“We have had discussions with those who matter, and the conclusion is that Hamzat will carry the party’s banner. We love you, we support you, and we will do everything to ensure victory,” Obasa stated.

Call for Party Loyalty

Also speaking, Senator Ganiyu Solomon urged party supporters, particularly in Mushin, to remain committed and actively participate in future elections.

“That’s the way you can demonstrate your loyalty to our party and our government,” he said.

Growing Political Momentum

The endorsements mark a significant step in Hamzat’s political journey, signalling growing momentum within the APC as the party begins early positioning ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Lagos State.

Political observers note that continued consultations and internal consensus-building will be crucial as the party moves closer to selecting its candidate.
