Nollywood actress and content creator Oluwabukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as KieKie, has explained the circumstances that led to her decision to cohabit with her husband before their official wedding ceremony.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, KieKie disclosed that the arrangement was driven largely by practical and financial considerations at the time.
According to the actress, she and her partner had already completed their traditional marriage rites and were in the final stages of preparing for their white wedding when they decided to move in together. She noted that her rent had expired during that period, prompting her to reconsider renewing her lease.
KieKie explained that, given the proximity of their wedding date, it did not make financial sense to secure another rental apartment for a short duration. Instead, she opted to move into her husband’s residence, a decision she acknowledged might attract public scrutiny.
“Before my husband and I got married, we lived together for about four months. My rent had expired, and we were getting married in January, so I said, ‘Why pay another rent?’” she said.
She further revealed that the arrangement was kept private at the time, particularly within her church community, where she was actively involved in singing.
Her comments have sparked conversations around societal expectations, cultural norms, and evolving attitudes toward cohabitation among young couples in Nigeria, especially when traditional rites have already been completed.
KieKie’s disclosure adds to ongoing discussions about balancing personal decisions with cultural and religious expectations, as more public figures continue to share insights into their private lives.
