The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has described the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election 2026 as a crucial indicator of the political strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sani, who also serves as the National Chairman of the Ekiti State Governorship Election Campaign Council, made the remarks upon his arrival in Ado-Ekiti, where he is set to participate in the official flag-off of the APC campaign for the re-election of Biodun Oyebanji.
According to the Kaduna governor, the outcome of the June 20 poll will reflect public perception of the APC-led administration under President Bola Tinubu.
“The outcome of the Ekiti State governorship election will reflect the strength and acceptability of the ruling party’s leadership,” Sani said, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects.
He also voiced strong confidence in Oyebanji’s chances, attributing it to what he described as impressive performance in governance. Sani highlighted achievements in infrastructure development, education, youth empowerment, and human capital development as key factors that could influence voter support.
Describing the Ekiti governor as a leader with humility and inclusiveness, Sani maintained that his policies have translated into tangible development across the state.
“My dear brother has done extremely well, and I have no doubt that the people of Ekiti have seen his efforts. This election, for me, is just a formality,” he added.
The Ekiti governorship election is expected to be keenly contested, with 13 political parties participating. Political observers view the poll as a significant test of party structures and voter sentiment ahead of the next general election cycle.
Sani was received at the airport by a delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, and later hosted at the Government House by Governor Oyebanji alongside other party leaders, including Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.
As campaigns commence, attention is expected to focus on voter engagement, party strategies, and the broader implications of the election outcome for national politics.
