Iran’s military has announced that it is resuming full control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, according to reports from Iranian state media.

The announcement, carried by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-linked Fars News Agency, the Iranian Students News Agency, and state broadcaster IRIB, said the vital shipping lane has returned “to its previous state,” with the country’s armed forces now overseeing movement through the area.

In the statement, the military accused the United States of “piracy,” describing the ongoing naval blockade as maritime robbery. Iranian officials had earlier warned that the strait could be shut again if the US continued restrictions on Iranian ports.

The latest development has raised fresh concerns over global energy supplies, as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. A significant portion of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas passes through the narrow waterway, making any disruption a major concern for international markets.

Although some commercial vessels were previously seen attempting to transit the strait, it remains unclear how much marine traffic has successfully moved through the corridor amid the renewed military control. Reports suggest shipping access remains uncertain due to conflicting statements from both Iranian and US officials.

The renewed standoff is expected to keep global oil markets on edge, with fears that prolonged restrictions could further impact fuel prices and regional stability
