APC Crisis in Oyo: Leaders Condemn ‘Inhumane’ Treatment of Party Chieftain in Lagelu

Tensions within the All Progressives Congress in Lagelu Local Government Area have deepened following the alleged assault of party chieftain Gafar Oyebade, an incident leaders have described as inhumane and unacceptable.

Speaking at a press conference in Ibadan, party stakeholders expressed outrage over the reported attack, insisting that no individual, regardless of political standing, should be subjected to violence within a democratic setting.

According to accounts presented by Oyebade, he was allegedly harassed and injured during a confrontation at the APC State Secretariat. The development has since sparked concern among party faithful, who argue that such actions undermine the core values of respect, discipline, and lawful engagement expected within political institutions.

Condemning the incident, party leaders stressed that physical violence is not only morally wrong but also erodes public confidence in leadership. They maintained that politics should be guided by dialogue and due process, not intimidation or force.

Oyebade, while addressing journalists, called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and other key stakeholders to intervene and restore order within the party structure. He alleged that internal party mechanisms had been compromised and warned that failure to act could embolden further acts of aggression.

Supporting his position, a former local government chairman, Timothy Sanda, described the situation as unfortunate and inconsistent with the values of the party. He emphasised that no elected official should be seen engaging in acts of violence, particularly in a public setting.

Beyond the immediate incident, party leaders noted that similar tensions have been reported in other local government areas, including Atisbo, Afijio, Egbeda, and Ibadan North-West, calling for urgent intervention to prevent further escalation.

They urged relevant authorities, including the police, to ensure accountability and uphold justice, stressing that addressing the matter decisively would serve as a deterrent against future misconduct.

However, the lawmaker accused in the incident, Olafisoye Akinmoyede, has reportedly denied the allegations, dismissing claims of assault as unfounded.
