A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Gafar Oyebade, has been hospitalised after allegedly being assaulted during a meeting at the party’s state secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, according to a report by Dailypost.
Oyebade accused the member representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye Akinmoyede, of orchestrating the attack.
Oyebade said he had been invited by the APC State Secretary, Hon. Fatai Adesina, to a meeting aimed at resolving disputes arising from the recently conducted local government congress in Lagelu.
He alleged that the meeting became heated before the lawmaker and some associates descended on him.
“I was beaten, harassed, and seriously injured during the meeting,” Oyebade said, adding that the incident has been reported to the Iyaganku State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where he is currently receiving medical attention.
However, Akinmoyede has denied the allegations. In a statement issued through his legislative aide, Dr. Isiaq Akintunde, he confirmed that a meeting took place but insisted that no assault occurred.
“The meeting was convened to address internal party concerns. At no time was there any physical confrontation,” the statement said.
Efforts to obtain reactions from the Oyo State APC leadership were ongoing as of the time of this report.
