The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, has announced that he will not contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027, citing a desire to serve Nigeria at a broader level.
In a video message shared online, Pate acknowledged the widespread calls from residents of Bauchi State urging him to join the race, expressing gratitude for their support and confidence in his leadership.
“I am aware of the calls by our people across the nooks and crannies for me to join the race, but this is also a time that it appears my service is needed beyond Bauchi,” he said.
The minister explained that after consultations with elders, youths, and other stakeholders, he made the decision to prioritise national service over a state-level political ambition.
“At this point, one must think carefully and seek Allah’s guidance in deciding whether to serve at the state, regional, or national level,” he added.
Pate emphasised that contributing to national development goes beyond holding elective office, noting that Nigeria requires collective efforts from its citizens at all levels.
“Our country needs our contributions. There are many ways we can support the rebuilding of our nation, not just at the state level,” he said.
Despite stepping away from the governorship race, he reassured the people of Bauchi that his commitment to their welfare remains unchanged, pledging continued efforts to improve healthcare, create job opportunities, and support vulnerable groups.
He also promised to remain active in politics by backing credible candidates with integrity and a genuine commitment to public service.
Pate further called on citizens to support the administration of Bola Tinubu and candidates of the All Progressives Congress, stressing that alignment between federal and state governments would drive development.
Addressing young people, he urged them to avoid political manipulation, violence, and drug abuse, encouraging them to take up responsible leadership roles.
“The youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are the leaders of today,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming his dedication to public service and thanking his supporters for their trust.
