Akor Adams has called for a decisive reset in Nigerian football, urging stakeholders to move beyond disappointment and take full responsibility following the Super Eagles failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Sevilla FC striker stressed that the focus must now shift from regret to urgent action, warning that another missed World Cup—particularly in 2030—could significantly damage Nigeria’s football identity on the global stage.

Call for Immediate Action

Speaking via La Liga, Adams emphasised that rebuilding the national team cannot be delayed, describing preparation as a continuous process that must begin immediately.

“We are motivated to make sure we don’t disappoint ourselves and Nigerians again,” Adams said.

“Another miss would take a very big toll on Nigerian football. The preparation starts now—it starts every day leading up to 2030.”

A Growing Concern for Nigerian Football

Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 tournament marks a second consecutive absence from the World Cup, a stark contrast to the country’s proud history since its debut at the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

Adams noted that this legacy places a clear responsibility on the current generation of players and stakeholders to act with urgency and accountability.

Responsibility Beyond the Pitch

The 24-year-old forward highlighted that the task of rebuilding goes beyond the players, extending to administrators, coaches, and the Nigeria Football Federation.

According to him, meaningful progress will depend on improved alignment between the technical crew, the playing squad, and football administrators.

Looking Ahead: Unity Cup Opportunity

Despite the setback, Adams remains optimistic about the team’s future, pointing to upcoming fixtures as a chance to begin rebuilding confidence.

He identified the Unity Cup in London as a key opportunity for the Super Eagles to reset and establish a new direction, with matches scheduled against Jamaica national football team, India national football team, and Zimbabwe national football team.

For Adams, the road to redemption begins now — with consistent effort, structural reform, and a renewed commitment to restoring Nigeria’s status on the world football stage.
