The political atmosphere in Ibadan North East has intensified following the endorsement of House of Assembly aspirant Demilade Akin-Alabi by the Oyo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), His excellency Dr Moses Alake Adeyemo
Akin-Alabi, popularly known as “Genio,” received the nod during a high-level consultative meeting with party stakeholders, a development that observers say positions him as a leading contender for the 2027 state legislative race.
Party sources indicate that the endorsement reflects growing confidence in Akin-Alabi’s leadership potential, particularly among younger members of the party. The APC chairman reportedly commended his commitment to progressive ideals and his ability to connect both with experienced party leaders and the youth demographic in the constituency.
The development is being interpreted within political circles as part of a broader shift within the APC toward grooming a new generation of leaders capable of strengthening the party’s grassroots appeal and electoral competitiveness in Oyo State.
Also present at the engagement was Bisi Akin-Alabi, a former Special Adviser on Education to late ex-governor Abiola Ajimobi. Her support for Akin-Alabi’s ambition is seen as reinforcing continuity within the party’s legacy while aligning with emerging reform-oriented leadership.
Further backing for the aspirant came from notable figures, including Okoro Onyekachi and Babatunde Michael, who is serving as Director General of the campaign. Their involvement highlights the growing coalition of academic and professional stakeholders rallying behind the bid.
Political analysts suggest that Akin-Alabi’s campaign, branded “Genio Rising,” is gaining traction as a platform focused on innovation, youth inclusion, and improved governance at the grassroots level.
With the APC chairman’s endorsement now in the public domain, attention is expected to shift toward how the aspirant consolidates support ahead of party primaries, as the contest for the Ibadan North East seat gradually takes shape.
